The Doug Watson and Patt Dobbs partnership combined once again to deliver a treble at Meydan on Sunday.
It didn’t take long for the trainer-jockey team to ring in the first leg of the performance when it the second race they clocked it with a half margin effort.
The maiden over 1600m attracted a field of 14 but it was the 4YO son of Creative Cause, Sari Dubai, who got it done under Pat Dobbs who hit the lead 300m out and got it done breaking his maiden.
The Saeed Sultan Al Rahoomi owned colt had seven previous starts with four placings with this win sure to impress connections.
The performance from Sari Dubai even greater with the fact that he was racing on grass for the first time.
“He has really fought hard but, looking back, we have probably been a bit too positive on him in his dirt races and everything has gone perfectly tonight,” Dobbs said.
The second win from the treble came an hour later when Dobbs brought home Al Nayyir denying strong hope Withering of the victory by 1.25 lengths.
A real battle it was a highlight of the card, as jockey Dobbs said.
“He was a horse we were looking forward to this season as he has plenty of ability and a lovely pedigree. He is improving and hopefully can continue to do so in a better grade.”
Another Godolphin bred offspring of the great Dubawi, the 5YO colt had three wins from seven career starts and trained by Watson and with hoop Dobbs onboard progressed through the field to hit the lead with 150m left and come away with the win.
With another hour passing another win and the treble was completed by Dobbs and Watson. Qareeb winning by half a length after last winning in November, at the Meydan track.
With the lead at 500m left to run Dobbs led it forward to extend and notch up another treble for the trainer-jockey partnership.
Godolphin had only one runner on the card in a 4YO Cable Bay gelding, Open Mind. Under Danny Tudhope and trained by Saeed bin Suroor he took out the 1400m turf handicap after connections had celebrated a carnival double on Friday.
It was first success for Open Mind in his fifth attempt with his both previous career victories registered on the Chelmsford all-weather surface, including his most recent UK appearance, over 1200m, in late September.
“He is slowly improving this horse and this trip or back at 1200m suits him. I rode him in the UK when not beaten far on soft ground but this quicker surface has suited him,” Tudhope added.
