The penultimate race on the Super Saturday card is the Group One Jebel Hatta, only whetting our appetites for more World Cup Carnival action.
A field of 14 ran the 1800m trip for the purse worth US$350,000 and the competition was fierce with the field being possibly the deepest on the card.
The Mussabbeh Al Mheiri trained Alfareeq lined up attempting to make it a second year he took this feature.
Heavily supported in the race was the Charlie Appleby trained 5YO gelded son of Dubawi, Master of the Seas, who also came into the race having won his past two in tight Group company victories; taking out the Gr.3 Earl of Sefton Stakes in Newmarket last April before taking the spoils in the Group Two Zabeel Mile in January, in his only local run this season.
From the gate spearheading to the front was Roger Varian’s El Drama holding the lead for most of the journey. With 100m left to run Shadwell-owned AlFareeq launched up to the challenge and under Dane O’Neil came away with the victory for a second year in a row.
