With a five-timer victory at Rosehill on Saturday, champion jockey Kerrin McEvoy's confidence has soared to new heights as he sets his sights on a Group 1 double at Eagle Farm this coming Saturday with Aft Cabin and Congregation.
McEvoy's Confidence Soars With Aft Cabin & Congregation
With Godolphin's promising three-year-old Aft Cabin under his saddle, McEvoy gallops towards glory in the A$3 million Stradbroke Handicap (1400m), while aboard Chris Waller's undefeated two-year-old Congregation, he sets his sights on victory in the $1 million JJ Atkins (1600m).
Despite being listed at $11 in the latest Stradbroke betting, Aft Cabin, under the tutelage of James Cummings, is a promising contender. Despite being outranked by the $3 favorite, Think About It, jockey McEvoy is confident in his ability to secure a third Stradbroke victory after partnering with the Godolphin colt and earning a win in a recent Randwick barrier trial.
Jockey McEvoy: Ready To Compete At Eagle Farm
McEvoy was thrilled with Aft Cabin's performance at the trials, noting that the horse was in excellent shape. Despite the moderately run trial, Aft Cabin managed to dash home in the straight and move with grace and ease. He believed that Aft Cabin had what it takes to compete in the Stradbroke, with a weight of 53kg and impressive form behind him. McEvoy also had high hopes for Congregation, who he felt had a lot of promise as a colt.
Although he floated a bit in his last race, Congregation managed to rally and pick up speed in the last 50m, showing off his impressive stamina. McEvoy's success at the Rosehill meeting was due in part to his ability to adapt to changing race circumstances and take the initiative, as he did with Al Aabir. With his other big race rides at Eagle Farm, McEvoy was ready to take on the competition and prove his worth as a jockey.
