Trainer Clayton Douglas is beaming with joy over the outstanding shape of his superstar sprinter, Giga Kick, who is presently residing in Queensland, preparing for a packed fall season.
Douglas, who recently visited the Sunshine State to oversee his stable's leading horse, expressed his satisfaction with the son of Scissor Kick.
The Legacy Of Giga Kick: A Racing Legend
"He's a pretty lucky boy, the weather's great," Douglas joked.
"His weight's good, he's put on nice condition … he's still got that summer coat on him.
"Everything seems good, he's come through his win last start in really good order."
After triumphing in the Doomben 10,000 for the second consecutive time, Giga Kick was sent for a spell. The 2022 Everest champion will relish in the lush greenery for a fortnight before setting sights on the G2 McEwan Stakes as a promising debut race.
Aiming High: Giga Kick's Record-Breaking Feats
"We've got a nice plan for the spring," Douglas said.
"We'll look to sort of target The Everest third-up … Golden Eagle will probably be fourth-up.
"It seems like that's when his best runs have been, third and fourth-up."
Thanks to their secured slot, the team's strategy for this year's Everest has become much more straightforward, according to Douglas.
"Last year we were one of the last horses to get a slot … we weren't sure whether we were heading to a Coolmore or whether we were heading to an Everest," he said.
"This year it's sort of a more planned-out spring.
"As a four-year-old I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do."
