Adayar put on a brave performance and secured third place, with Mostahdaf emerging as the dominant winner of the Gr.1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes.
After a slow start, the winner of the 2021 Gr.1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes managed to catch up and take the third position, racing alongside My Prospero while Luxembourg and Classic Causeway led the small group of six runners.
Adayar's Valiant Effort Falls Short
Approaching the final quarter-mile, Adayar advanced to second place from Classic Causeway and maintained the position with the help of William Buick's guidance, as Mostahdaf took the lead a furlong and a half from the finish line.
Mostahdaf continued to widen the gap and won by four lengths, while Adayar engaged in a close battle with Luxembourg for second place but ultimately fell short by half a length.
Charlie Appleby said, “The way the race set up wasn’t ideal for Adayar. We were a little bit tardy from the gate and were hoping to either be on the lead or second to Classic Causeway.
“It was always going to be made for a turn of foot and Mostahdaf is good at that, so take nothing away from the winner. I feel Adayar is crying out for the step back up to a mile and a half and we will look towards the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes.”
