Tahiyra, an Irish raider, will be competing with six other three-year-old fillies in the Gr. 1 Coronation Stakes on the Round mile on day four of Royal Ascot.
Tahiyra Awaits Rematch That Never Was
The absence of Mawj, who defeated the current favorite in the 1000 Guineas, has diminished the competitiveness of this race.
The main focus of this race was supposed to be a rematch between Mawj and Tahiyra, who had previously competed in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.
Mawj had emerged as the winner by a small margin.
However, the HH Aga Khan-owned Tahiyra had won the Irish 1000 Guineas since then, making the rematch highly anticipated by horse racing fans.
Unfortunately, Mawj had a dirty scope just 72 hours before the race, which meant the rematch could not take place.
Nonetheless, there are six other Coronation Stakes runners, including Meditate, who has previously won at the course, competing at Ascot.
