The Bahrain International race has been elevated to Group Two status, with the prize money for the nation's largest race increased by over £150,000.
It has been won by British-trained Lord Glitters and Dubai Future since it started in 2019. Additionally, the prize money for the nation's largest race has been increased by over £150,000, making it worth a record A$1 million (£785,000) when it takes place for the fifth time in November.
“The promotion of the Bahrain International Trophy to Group 2 status is a significant milestone in enhancing the Kingdom's reputation in the global horse racing arena," stated Shaikh Isa Bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, chairman of the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club.
"We're looking forward to staging the best horseracing event to date and welcoming runners from all over the world to Bahrain."
Bahrain Turf Series: Bigger Prizes, Bigger Thrills
The prize money for each of the ten races in the Bahrain Turf Series has been increased by £5,000, bringing the total pot to £65,000.
This increase applies to all races in the series, which takes place from December to February and includes handicaps ranging from 5f to 1m2f.
Additionally, there is an additional A$80,000 in bonuses that will be shared among the top horses in the series, as well as the winning owner and trainer. Furthermore, the prize money for Bahrain's three Listed races, the Crown Prince's Cup, King's Cup, and the Al Methaq Mile, has also been raised.
The Turf Club has also made investments in the racing and training facilities.
