On Thursday, July 13th, Adayar will compete in the Gr.2 Princess Of Wales’s Stakes at Newmarket’s July Festival, bringing back memories of his wins in the Derby and King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Adayar, the son of Frankel, won two prestigious Group One middle-distance races in Europe during a fantastic summer in 2021. He also performed admirably in the Gr.1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, finishing fourth over a distance of 12 furlongs in the same season.
Adayar's Continued Dominance In Middle-Distance Races
Adayar has competed in five races since his wins in the Derby and King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes, all of which were over a mile and a quarter. These races included a second-place finish in the Gr.1 Champion Stakes last season and a decisive victory in the Gr.3 Gordon Richards Stakes upon his return as a 5YO.
Adayar recently competed in the Gr.1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot, where he finished in third place behind Mostahdaf and Luxembourg.
Charlie Appleby, Adayar's trainer, also has another horse, Global Storm, competing in the same race.
Global Storm previously finished third behind Yibir in the same race last year. The 6 YO horse had his own success in the Gr.2 Dubai City Of Gold in March and was the runner-up in the Gr.2 Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket's Guineas Festival, losing to Hurricane Lane.
Charlie Appleby said, “Adayar has come out of Royal Ascot well and the plan is that this will hopefully be a springboard onto the King George. He is in great order and we are looking forward to getting him back over a mile and a half, a trip that has produced his two biggest victories.
“Global Storm is a solid campaigner and his run behind Hurricane Lane looks strong, with the third West Wind Blows subsequently boosting the form. He is lining up on his own merits and ran well in this race last year.”
In May, Castle Way, who is a half-brother to Champion miler Palace Pier, emerged as the winner of the Listed Newmarket Stakes. Now, the colt trained by Charlie Appleby is set to compete in the Gr.3 Bahrain Trophy over a distance of 13 furlongs, marking a step up in both class and trip.
Charlie Appleby said, “We purposely missed Royal Ascot with Castle Way to wait for this race and are hoping that the step up in trip will see further improvement, which should open up a few doors. He is in great form at home and brings a nice profile into the race.”
Unbeaten colt Imperial Emperor, who is from the same family as Ghaiyyath, bids for a third straight win over a mile at Newmarket in the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Stakes. After dominating on his debut over the Rowley Mile in October, the Dubawi colt impressed again on the July Course last month.
Charlie Appleby said, “Imperial Emperor missed some of the spring but we were delighted with his comeback. He has definitely come forward for that run and we are testing him in a race that looks to have plenty of strength in depth. We are confident going into the race but will be a lot wiser afterwards as to where the rest of the season lies, in terms of grade and trip.”
