In the race for the prestigious title of Cartier Horse Of The Year, Paddington has emerged as the frontrunner. The top seven positions in the points standings for this esteemed equine award are currently occupied by 3YO. This highlights the dominance of the younger horses in the Cartier Racing Awards.
Aidan O'Brien's Paddington Reigns Supreme
Paddington, trained by Aidan O’Brien, has accumulated 112 points and has had a flawless campaign, winning the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes.
Owned by a Coolmore partnership, Paddington emerged victorious in the Coral-Eclipse, beating Emily Upjohn by half a length. This race has historically been significant in determining the winners of the Cartier Racing Awards.
Aidan O’Brien and Coolmore also have another strong contender in Auguste Rodin, who secured O’Brien's 100th Classic victory by winning the Dubai Duty-Free Irish Derby. Auguste Rodin will compete in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth QIPCO Stakes.
The Pertemps Network July Cup was won by Shaquille, trained by Julie Camacho. Shaquille has established a clear lead in the Cartier Sprinter category and is expected to compete in the Betfair Sprint Cup.
Older horses have been successful in the all-aged Group One races for fillies and mares, with Via Sistina winning the Yulong Pretty Polly Stakes and Nashwa triumphing in the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes. Nashwa will face a challenge from Blue Rose Cen in the Qatar Nassau Stakes.
The Qatar Goodwood Festival may witness a clash of generations in the Cartier Stayer category, with Courage Mon Ami, Coltrane, Subjectivist, and Gregory all potentially competing.
