Ian Ogg has selected a few horses to watch at the upcoming Qatar Goodwood Festival. One horse that is expected to be interesting is PERFUSE, although he may not be noticed by many bettors or experts.
Sir Michael Stoute's colt, who was the 4/1 favorite at Royal Ascot, will be competing in the 12-furlong race on Wednesday and the 10-furlong race on Thursday. He is aiming to bounce back from his defeat in the King George V Stakes, which was affected by the controversially fast pace that caused the collapse of the race.
From Appleby's Stable To Glory: Symbol Of Light
Perfuse, one of the prominent racers, performed the best out of all of them by finishing fifth, six lengths behind Desert Hero. This was a commendable effort given the circumstances, and it is widely expected that he will make up for it with a more cautious approach in the next race.
Symbol Of Light, another horse with options, is entered in both the 10-furlong handicap on Tuesday and the Golden Mile race.
Julie Camacho and her team have had some success with Shaquille this season, and they have another intriguing runner, Symbol Of Light, for owner Martin Hughes. Symbol Of Light was bought from Charlie Appleby's stable, where he won three out of his four starts. He made his debut for his new connections in June at Newcastle, finishing a close third to Lattam and Spirit Dancer.
This was a very promising start in a competitive race. Although he remains at the same handicap rating, he is expected to improve from his first race since January 2022 and may benefit from running over a longer distance.
It's not surprising to see familiar names in the entries for the Golden Mile, and the top four finishers from last year are once again among them. Orbaan won the race last year after finishing sixth in 2021, and the connections of REVICH are hoping for a similar result.
REVICH finished third at 66/1 last year, starting from stall 15. He was the best performer among those starting from double-digit stalls, which is significant in this race. Despite being 1lb higher in the handicap this time, he seems to be in good form after finishing fourth at Sandown in his last race, where he encountered some trouble during the race. Another strong performance could be expected from him in a race that suits his style.
According to North, the Crisfords' colt is the fastest breezer at the Craven Sales. The colt, who won his debut in Nottingham, could potentially compete in the Richmond Stakes against tougher competition. It will be interesting to see how he performs at a track where the stable has had success.
Artistic Star showed potential for St Leger when he finished seventh in the Derby and continued to perform well in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot. Although the race doesn't provide the distance he needs, it is a lower grade and connections hope he performs well to keep their dreams of winning the September showpiece alive.
Charlie Johnston's stable has an important week ahead and all their runners are worth paying attention to. One horse that may go unnoticed is Benacre, who is entered in the 10 furlong handicap on Thursday and the Golden Mile.
Despite never racing beyond a mile, he seems like a horse that could excel in a longer distance. He didn't perform well in the Britannia Stakes but has been refreshed after a busy first part of the season where he finished well in Listed races and the German Guineas. Additionally, his success on downhill tracks as a juvenile, winning at Epsom and Goodwood, adds an interesting aspect to his form.
