It is becoming increasingly likely that Hukum will go straight to the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe after his heroic victory in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes last month.
In a thrilling edition of Ascot's midsummer showpiece, the 6YO narrowly defeated Westover, securing his second Group One win. Hukum had previously won the Coronation Cup at Epsom last year but suffered an injury afterward.
With his undeniable talent still intact, the connections of Hukum have decided to hold off on any further races, opting to focus on Europe's premier middle-distance contest on October 1. They are content with their decision and confident in Hukum's abilities.
“Touch wood he’s in good shape and he seemed to come out of it well,” said Angus Gold, racing manager for owners Shadwell.
“I haven’t spoken to Owen (Burrows, trainer) particularly about it, but from what I saw quoted I think he’s happy to go straight to the Arc unless something else presented itself.
“He’s a dual Group One winner, so we don’t have to run him just for the sake of it, and I think if we got him to Longchamp in good shape, he’d have a decent chance.
“That’s our job now, to get him there in the best possible shape.”
