Andre Fabre may have a strong contender for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe after his horse, Place Du Carrousel, won the Prix Gontaut-Biron Hong Kong Jockey Club at Deauville on Sunday.
Despite only making one appearance this season, where she finished poorly in the Prix Ganay, the 4YO mare maintained a good position throughout the race and comfortably defeated Bolthole by three-quarters of a length.
Aiming For Glory: Place Du Carrousel
Ridden by jockey Mickael Barzalona, Place Du Carrousel showcased her potential for the prestigious Group One race.
Last year, Place Du Carrousel displayed her stamina by chasing down Nashwa in the Prix de l'Opera on Arc day. This year, there is speculation that she may be aimed towards the main event, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
“It’s great to see her back,” said Rupert Pritchard-Gordon, who is owner Al Shaqab’s racing consultant in France.
“After the Ganay she really blossomed, but Andre took his time and said this is where we would start her off. There’s no rush. She’s in the Romanet but obviously there is the Vermeille and we hope she might be a filly for the Arc.”
Unfortunately, the British and Irish horses did not have much success in the other two Group Three races. However, trainer Charlie Appleby managed to secure a victory for the visiting contingent with Bold Act triumphing in the Listed Prix Nureyev.
