Mawj, the 1000 Guineas winner trained by Saeed bin Suroor, is being considered for a comeback in the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket in October.
However, the Godolphin trainer also has the option of entering her in the Grade One First Lady race at Keeneland on the same weekend.
Bin Suroor is strategically planning her return as he aims to prepare his Classic heroine for the Breeders’ Cup in November. He has confirmed that Mawj will remain in training as a 4YO.
Infection Forces Filly's Absence
The filly has not been seen since her impressive victory in the Guineas, where she beat Tahiyra, as she was unable to compete in the Royal Ascot due to an infection. The Sun Chariot Stakes is a Group One race for fillies and mares aged three and up, run over the mile distance. The First Lady race at Keeneland is a Grade One race for fillies and mares aged three and up, run over the same distance. Mawj will be a strong contender in either of the races, given her impressive record and her trainer's expertise.
“She’s doing well. I’ve given her an entry in the Sun Chariot or the same week there’s a race for her at Keeneland,” said Bin Suroor.
“Those are what we are looking at for her, those two races. We’ll see which one closer to the time. The Sun Chariot is obviously closer (to home).
“The Breeders’ Cup is our big aim for this year, she’s not a big filly so a track like Keeneland will be perfect.
“She’ll stay in training next year, which is good news.”
