Amenable has made quite an impression in his first run as a 4YO at Caulfield last Saturday, giving him a shot at group one glory as early as next month.
Co-trainer Michael Kent Jnr expressed his delight over the performance, saying that the horse's physical and mental improvement is a clear indication that he will be taking his game to the next level this season. In his previous year as a 3YO, Amenable was a promising contender, finishing within less than two lengths in both the Caulfield Guineas and the Australian Guineas during the spring and autumn classics.
‘’He’s a smart horse and he’s definitely improved,’’ Kent Jnr said of the horse, who ran off as the $5 favourite.
‘’We’ve got a little program. Winning definitely helps getting his rating up. We could potentially run in the Epsom (Handicap on September 2) two weeks prior to the Toorak.
‘’He’s going to get into these handicaps with light weights and hopefully, he can win a group One this campaign.’’
Jockey Damian Lane agreed: ‘’He’s a quality galloper and he can go to the next level.’’
Carini Shines In Australian Debut, Surprising Even The Experts
It's possible that Amenable won't be the only horse from Saturday's race to compete in a major race this spring. Carini made an impressive Australian debut, finishing strong even after starting from the back of the pack. Trainer Danny O'Brien shared that Carini has been performing well in training and was a significant investment for his owners, costing about $925,000 from Europe.
‘’We’ve been very happy with him but until you get to the races, you can’t be stamping that they have definitely come out and adjusted but he’s thrived in the past few months,’’ he said.
‘’He was a bit doughy out (of the barriers) and that is to be expected as European racing is a lot more social than ours.
‘’We’ve got plenty of options. He’s in them (Cups) but I doubt it this year. I think we might just find our way this spring and see where he ends up.’’
