Castle Way, an up-and-coming stayer, is aiming to maintain his perfect record this season and secure a place in the prestigious St Leger race by performing well in the Gr.2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York.
Castle Way, the half-brother of the Champion miler Palace Pier, has already demonstrated his potential by winning a trial for the Doncaster Classic. He achieved this victory in a hard-fought battle during the Gr.3 Bahrain Trophy over a mile and five furlongs at Newmarket's July Festival.
Castle Way’s Winning Streak: From Nursery to St. Leger
In addition to this triumph, Castle Way also achieved success at Newmarket earlier in the year. He comfortably won the 10-furlong Listed Newmarket Stakes on the Rowley Mile in May, and prior to that, he won a nursery handicap race over the same course and distance in his final appearance as a 2YO.
Castle Way's impressive performances have caught the attention of racing enthusiasts and experts alike. As a result, he has gained a significant following and is considered a promising contender for the upcoming St. Leger race.
Castle Way has inherited some of the talent and racing prowess that runs in the family. Palace Pier enjoyed a stellar career as a miler, winning numerous prestigious races, including the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
With Castle Way's unbeaten season so far, there is a sense of anticipation surrounding his participation in the Great Voltigeur Stakes. This race is seen as a crucial stepping stone towards securing a spot in the St Leger, one of the most important and prestigious races for 3YO stayers.
His trainer Charlie Appleby said, “Castle Way came out of the Bahrain Trophy in good order and it was always the plan to head to York afterwards. It’s a trappy race but we know Castle Way stays well and conditions look there to suit.”
