Exciting racehorse Yellow Brick has garnered nominations for both the Cox Plate and the Caulfield Cup, but trainer Tony Sears is adamant that their main focus is on the upcoming Sydney races.
Yellow Brick was the talk of the town during the Queensland winter carnival and will be undergoing their first trial with new jockey Jimmy Orman at Doomben next Tuesday.
The horse's owner, who is from Singapore, will be present at the trial and will also witness the second trial before Yellow Brick competes in the Weetwood Handicap on their home track in Toowoomba on September 23. Following this, Yellow Brick will be heading to Sydney to compete in the A$10m Golden Eagle for 4YO.
From Missed Opportuinity To Unstoppable Force: Yellow Bricks’s Resurgence
Yellow Brick was previously considered a major contender for the Gr.1 Stradbroke Handicap, but unfortunately missed out on the opportunity to participate in the highly esteemed sprint. Nonetheless, Yellow Brick has made a comeback and is back in top form.
"He is actually very forward, he has already had a few gallops and his data is scary," Sears, who trains with daughter Maddysen, said.
"The data says he has improved a lot since his last campaign.
"We have nominated him for those big Melbourne races just in case things happen to change.
"But the Golden Eagle is the only path we are taking at the moment.
"We haven't got a rider for his Sydney campaign at the moment but Jimmy Orman will ride him in the trial next week and also in the Weetwood.
"The owner (Melvin Foo) will be there to watch the trial, he has flown over from Singapore with his family for a holiday."
After finishing second in the $2m Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas last January, Yellow Brick made a brilliant comeback at the start of the Queensland winter carnival. Unfortunately, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott colt Hawaii Five Oh beat Yellow Brick into second place, securing his spot in the Stradbroke by winning the Fred Best Classic.
Hawaii Five Oh performed well in the Stradbroke, coming in third behind Think About It. Yellow Brick raced on Stradbroke Day in the Gunsynd Classic, but despite a powerful finish, he was too far back to take first place and settled for second.
