On Tuesday, Yulong Investments continued their impressive spending spree in Australian racing by purchasing John Singleton's prized breeding stock for a total of A$15.5m. The sale included highly-regarded mares More Joyous, Dear Demi, Miss Fabsulas, Karuta Queen, and Mokulua, as well as other breeding prospects. Yuesheng Zhang's Yulong Investments spent A$8,980,000 to snap up 15 lots at an average of A$598,667.
Yulong Investments had previously spent a remarkable A$33.5m on broodmares at the Magic Millions auction earlier this year. This time, they only needed a modest A$450,000 to win the champion mare More Joyous, an eight-time Group One winner, from Singleton's stable. However, progeny from other stars in Singleton's stable attracted seven-figure bids from other big spenders.
Miss Fabulass, an impeccably bred daughter of English champion Frankel out of multiple Gr.1 winner Samantha Miss, was sold for a whopping A$1.85m to Yulong's Highway Farm. A weanling colt by I Am Invincible out of Gr.2 Tea Rose Stakes winner Miss Fabulass was sold for A$950,000 to Kia Ora Stud and Tony Fung Investments.
Yulong also spent A$1.6m to acquire Group Two victor Mokulua, in foal to Frankel, while also securing other highly-regarded mares like Dear Demi, Karuta Queen, Woman, and Too Much Lippy. Gr.1 winner Dear Demi, in foal to gun sire Zoustar, fetched A$700,000, while a Zoustar weanling colt out of the mare was picked up for A$360,000 (China Horse Club/Newgate/Go Bloodstock/Trilogy Racing) and a Pierro filly for $525,000 (Glentree Racing).
Singleton, a successful owner-breeder for over 50 years, recently revealed that he would be selling the vast majority of his breeding stock. He expressed no regrets about the move, stating that he would keep only a few horses to race with his mates. One of those horses is the talented Hawaii Five Oh, who will have a track gallop after race one at Warwick Farm on Wednesday as he prepares for the upcoming Spring Carnival. Singleton also plans to sell his Strawberry Hills Stud property on the Central Coast at a later date.
