I Wish I Win, the second favorite for The Everest, is eagerly looking forward to a week at the beach. After his respectable third-place finish in the Gr.1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday, the 5YO has recovered well. Peter Moody, the trainer, provided an update to the co-owners Waikato Stud on Monday morning, following a thorough check-up by the vet.
Despite his valiant effort, I Wish I Win, the son of Savabeel The Heritage Stakes is set to take place on Golden Rose Day, which is a Group One race day held annually in Sydney, Australia., couldn't quite catch Mr Brightside and finished just half a length behind. This race marked his return after participating in the TJ Smith Stakes on April 1. Moody has expressed his satisfaction with the horse's performance and condition since then.
“He trotted up well, (he’s) in good order (and) ate well all weekend. He left a double handfuls of dipper of feed Saturday night, so he knew he’d had a run, but then he ate up last night.
“The vets trotted him up and flexed him up, so everything seems good.
“He’s just going to have a little jog on the treadmill this morning then he’ll go and have a lap of the pool and around mid-morning well shoot him down the beach and he can have the rest of the week down there.
“He seems to have come through the run in fine order. He seems happy and healthy, as you can see ears pricked, and in good order.”
Moody did not discuss any alternative race options for I Wish I Win prior to The Everest. Previously, the Pakenham trainer had mentioned that the 1400-meter Memsie Stakes could be the only race before the A$20 million sprint at Randwick in October.
