Iberian, a 2YO horse owned by Teme Valley and Ballylinch Stud and trained by Charlie Hills, is set to participate in the Betfred Champagne Stakes at Doncaster's St Leger Festival.
The son of Lope De Vega impressed many by winning a Newbury novice event earlier this summer and is now aiming for bigger and better things.
Although he couldn't participate in the Superlative Stakes against City Of Troy due to deteriorating ground, Iberian still got the chance to showcase his skills in Group Two company when he came second in the Vintage Stakes during the Qatar Goodwood Festival.
Despite his inexperience, he was only beaten by Richard Hannon's Haatem and his trainer is optimistic that this exposure to a higher level of competition will prepare him well for his upcoming race on Town Moor.
“He’s been really good since Goodwood,” said Hills.
“He was probably just a little bit green on that ground and around that track. He just ran a bit in snatches but I’m sure that experience will bring him on a good bit.
“His work has been great since and he’s due to do a nice piece this week. Hopefully that will put him spot on for Doncaster next week.
“That race should suit him and better ground will help as well.”
