On Saturday, Randwick will host two races with a field of 12 in the A$1m, Gr.2 Shorts and a similar sized field for the A$1m, 7 Stakes. The winner of the 7 Stakes will be exempt from a ballot for the Gr.1 Epsom Handicap on September 30th, while the winner of The Shorts will possibly receive an invitation to The Everest.
The acceptances for The Shorts are led by Remarque and In Secret, who finished first and second in the Gr.3 Concorde Stakes over at Randwick on September 2nd. The Hawkes’ trained Remarque has barrier two for Tyler Schiller, while In Secret has barrier four for apprentice Zac Lloyd. Matthew Smith's Buenos Noches has also been accepted after winning the Group three Show County. On Saturday, he has barrier three for apprentice Dylan Gibbons.
The upcoming race at 4.00pm, The Shorts, will feature some impressive contenders. Hawaii Five Oh, trained by Waterhouse and Bott, is resuming after finishing third in the Gr.1 Stradbroke Handicap. John O'Shea's Lost And Running is also fresh up and will be competing with Chad Schofield with barrier eight. Last year, Lost And Running came in third to Nature Strip and Overpass in The Shorts. Overpass, who was sixth last year in The Everest, is commencing a new campaign with Josh Parr up and barrier one.
Before The Shorts, the 7 Stakes race will take place at 3.25pm. Kerry Parker's Think It Over will be continuing his road back after his injury layoff. The 2022 Gr.1 Queen Elizabeth Stake winner was a half-length third in the Gr.2 Chelmsford Stakes. Regular rider Nash Rawiller will be riding with barrier two.
Annabel Neasham-trained Zaaki after his third to Fangirl in the Group One Winx Stakes. Neasham has also put forward My Oberon with Zaaki in barrier six for Chad Schofield and My Oberon in three for Regan Bayliss.
The Waller stable has accepted with Fangirl as well as Going Global and Hinged. Fangirl with Kerrin McEvoy has barrier 10, Going Global with apprentice Dylan Gibbons has barrier one, and Hinged with Brett Prebble has barrier eight.
The race prior to The Shorts is the 7 Stakes with Kerry Parker’s Think It Over continuing his road back after his injury layoff.
