Forgotten sprinter Lost And Running is poised to remind everyone of his prowess as one of Australia's top sprinters in the highly anticipated Group two US$1m The Shorts at Royal Randwick this Saturday, according to talented jockey Chad Schofield. With the aim of propelling the John O'Shea-trained speedster back into the US$20m TAB Everest calculations, Schofield is eager to guide Lost And Running to a stellar performance.
Lost & Running’s Impressive Track Record
Lost And Running's impressive track record includes a commendable fourth-place finish in The Everest last year, showcasing his ability to compete against the nation's elite sprinters. Prior to the prestigious turf event, he secured victory in the Gr.2 Premiere Stakes, further cementing his status as a force to be reckoned with on the racetrack. Unfortunately, a setback prevented his participation in The Everest itself, leaving a sense of unfinished business.
Despite not tasting victory in his past three outings since the Premier Stakes triumph, Lost And Running is determined to seize the opportunity to reestablish himself as a formidable contender for The Everest. The upcoming edition of The Shorts promises to be an exhilarating affair, as Lost And Running aims to stake his claim and reignite the hopes of his connections and fans alike.
"I can't help but feel that it's his season really with Eduardo and Nature Strip now out of the picture," Schofield said.
"I trialled him the other day and the horse felt fantastic. It was the first time I had a sit on him and he felt fantastic so I couldn‘t be happier with him.
"It was nice to have a feel of him and to get to know him a little bit.
"He is in for a great prep."
Schofield has not yet had the opportunity to ride Lost And Running in an actual race, but he was highly impressed with the performance of the seven-year-old in his recent trial. Despite finishing fourth in an 850m hitout on September 8, Lost And Running showed great potential and caught Schofield's attention with a strong finish.
As a Group One-winning jockey, Schofield firmly believes that Lost And Running has the ability to regain his top form. With a favorable barrier draw of eight in The Shorts, Schofield is confident that the talented horse can bounce back and deliver an exceptional performance.
Lost And Running's odds have shifted, going from US$8 to US$11 with TAB in The Shorts. In this race, he will face off against other contenders who are also vying for a spot in the Everest.
The current favourite is In Secret, who holds Godolphin's top seed for their slot. Additionally, last year's Everest runner-up, Private Eye, along with sixth placegetter Overpass and up-and-coming sprinters Buenos Noches and Remarque, will also be competing.
Mazu, trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, has already secured a slot and will make his comeback in this race.
