A significant number of horses from the northern hemisphere are set to make their mark at the Sydney Everest Carnival, which boasts a staggering A$87 million in prize money. Among the contenders are ten horses from the UK, who will be based at Canterbury Park and trained by overseas trainers as well as prominent Sydney trainers. These hopefuls are targeting prestigious races such as the brand new A$5 million King Charles III Stakes at Royal Randwick and the A$10 million James Squire Golden Eagle at Rosehill Gardens.
Several notable British-trained horses have caught the attention of racing fans. One such contender is Light Infantry, who is now under the care of trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace. Another horse to watch is Buckeroo, trained by leading Irish trainer Joseph O’Brien. Both horses are preparing for the highly anticipated A$5 million King Charles III Stakes.
Meanwhile, the A$10 million James Squire Golden Eagle has attracted a strong field of contenders. Former British-trained horses New Endeavour, Zoology, Age of Kings, and Galeron are all heading towards this prestigious race. Additionally, Coin Toss from Singapore will also be making an appearance in the Golden Eagle.
In another exciting development, the Sydney Spring Carnival is set to welcome its first Japanese runner, Obamburumai. Trained by Keiji Yoshimura and ridden by world-renowned jockey Yutaka Take, this 4YO is a crowd favourite for the A$10 million James Squire Golden Eagle.
James Ross, the Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering, expressed his delight at the calibre of horses participating in the Sydney Everest Carnival. He emphasised that these horses, including standouts like Light Infantry and Buckeroo, are a testament to the high-quality race and substantial prize money offered by Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club.
