Light Infantry, a gun import for the King Charles III Stakes, arrived in Australia in excellent condition. He started his training at Canterbury Park on Tuesday morning with a smooth hitout.
Light Infantry, the new addition to the team of Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, is among the group of international horses that recently arrived in Sydney to prepare for the upcoming spring carnival. Light Infantry is returning to Australia after a sixth-place finish in last year's Golden Eagle. This Group One placegetter will be staying in the country this time and joining Maher and Eustace's stable.
Fast Company's clever son is in excellent condition as he sets his sights on Sydney, with his connections affording him the opportunity to aim for the Cox Plate.
"He has travelled well. Ciaron is happy with him," Eustace said.
"He looked nice and bright out on the track and didn't do too much there on Tuesday morning.
"All is well and he will run in the King Charles III then go to the Cox Plate all being well."
Light Infantry is one of the top contenders for the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Randwick on October 14, with odds set at $6. However, his chances are more uncertain in the Cox Plate, where he is priced at US$15.
Maher and Eustace have brought Nails Murphy and Zoology to the country as well, hoping to secure a spot for the latter in the prestigious US$10m Golden Eagle race.
"He is well," Eustace said.
"We are hoping to get him to the Golden Eagle but it may be touch and go to get him a run with his rating."
Two other international horses, Land Legend and Canberra Legend, also visited Canterbury for a look around. The James Ferguson-trained duo is making their presence known in the racing world.
Canberra Legend is expected to compete in the Gr.3 Craven Plate on October 28th, while Land Legend is set to participate in the ATC St Leger on October 14th.
Chris Waller's latest acquisition, Ace Of Kings, is a promising contender for the upcoming Golden Eagle race. In addition, Joseph O'Brien's horse, Buckaroo, is also making strides towards the King Charles III Stakes.
