Mawj will be making her first appearance since her exciting victory in the 1,000 Guineas when she competes in the Gr.1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland on Saturday, 14th October.
Modern Games' half-sister is set to make her debut in the US, running nine furlongs. She missed most of the European summer due to a chest infection. Modern Games is a dual Breeders' Cup winner and Eclipse Award recipient.
Mawj, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, has had an impressive season so far. The Exceed And Excel filly has won all three of her starts, including two victories at Meydan. In her latest race, she exhibited great determination by defeating the four-time Gr.1 winner, Tahiyra, by a half-length in the Newmarket Classic.
Saeed bin Suroor said, “Mawj had a break after she was forced to miss Royal Ascot, but she has been working nicely and travelled out to Keeneland without any problems. Oisin Murphy rode her in her last piece of work in Newmarket, which went well, and we have been pleased with her preparation.
“This will be her first try at nine furlongs, but she should be fine with the trip on a flat track like Keeneland, and we are looking forward to seeing her back on a racecourse. The plan is to see how she runs here before deciding whether to look at the Mile or the Filly & Mare Turf at the Breeders’ Cup.”
