On Wednesday, 20 December, the QREC Al Rayyan Racecourse held a fantastic day of racing with six Oaks titles on the line. The Listed Qatar Oaks for 3YO Thoroughbred fillies was won by Chealamy, trained by Charlie Fellowes. Chealamy won by a length and a half on Qatar debut, completing a double on the card for owner Khalifa Bin Sheail KH J Al Kuwari and jockey Jim Crowle. Marinara finished second, and Kimnkate completed the frame of the day's feature, finishing three lengths behind Chealamy. Hamad Bin Abdulrahman Al Attiya, Vice Chairman of QREC and Chairman of the Asian Equestrian Federation, presented the trophies to the winners.
In the penultimate race of the 10-race card, Muataz won the Class 1 Local Thoroughbred Oaks for 3YO fillies. Owned by Wathnan Racing and trained by Alban de Mieulle, Muataz held off the challenge of her stablemate, Soomia, to land the spoils in the 1850m race by two lengths. This victory was a fourth win for the owner and trainer and a second win for jockey Mickael Barzalona on the day. Hamad Bin Abdulrahman Al Attiya, Vice Chairman of QREC and Chairman of the Asian Equestrian Federation, crowned the winners.
In Race 8, jockey Maxime Guyon partnered Gorat Aeen to win the Class 1 Purebred Arabian Oaks for 4YO fillies. Gorat Aeen, carrying the colours of H.E. Sheikha Reem Bint Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani, won the race on Qatar debut by a length and three-quarters. Francois Rohaut trained the filly. Bader Mohammed Al Darwish, QREC Acting CEO, presented the trophies to the winners.
Nesrine won the Class 1 Local Purebred Arabian Oaks for 4YO fillies, recording her second straight win and giving owner and trainer, Wathnan Racing, a third win on the card. Soufiane Saadi was the jockey. Nesrine's stablemate, finished two and a half lengths behind the winner. Sheikha Alanood bint Abdullah Al Thani, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, of Education Above All, presented the trophies to the winners.
Tulaitila won the Class 1 Purebred Arabian Oaks for trainer Thomas Fourcy with jockey Jim Crowley in the saddle. Tulaitila, owned by Khalifa Bin Sheail KH J Al Kuwari, marked her Qatar debut with a valuable victory, taking the 1600m contest for 3YO fillies by a length. Hamad Bin Abdulrahman Al Attiya, Vice Chairman of QREC and Chairman of the Asian Equestrian Federation, crowned the winners.
AJS Agadir won the Class 1 Local Purebred Arabian Oaks, for 3YO fillies, by half a length ahead of her stablemate AJS Najma in the 1600m contest. M.H.K Al Attiyah saddled the first three home, and all three carried the colours of owner and breeder Al Jeryan Stud. This win was AJS Agadir's first career start, and jockey Oisin Murphy rode her. Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, presented trophies to the winners.
In the 1400m Local Thoroughbred Novice Plate, a Class 5 for 3YO+ Fillies & Mares, Messaouda bolted up by six lengths, running away from her rivals. Mickael Barzalona rode the filly, and it was another win for Wathnan Racing and Alban de Mieulle.
Barika won the Class 6 Thoroughbred Maiden Plate for 2YO Fillies by three-quarters of a length. She stayed on strongly at the end of the 1400m race to register a win for owner Al Ghazali Stud, trainer Nasser Ghazali, and jockey Maxime Guyon.
Pure Motion won the 1600m Thoroughbred Maiden Plate, a Class 6 for 3-6 YO Fillies & Mares, for owner Jassim Bin Ali M Al Al-Attiyah and trainer Gassim Ghazali. She won by three-quarters of a length under jockey Soufiane Saadi, showing a brilliant turn of foot in the final furlong.
Alban de Mieulle and Carol Henrique teamed up in the first of a bumper 10-race card to take the 1600m Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate, a Class 6 for 3-6 YO Fillies & Mares, with Farida. Farida came with a well-timed run in the famous silks of Wathnan Racing to get off the mark impressively by two lengths and a quarter.
