The Muaither Cup race meeting featured a thrilling main event on Wednesday, 27th December, at the QREC Al Rayyan Racecourse. Purebred Arabian Handicap for 3YOs and older saw Nijinski Al Maury win by two and a half lengths, with jockey Giuseppe Cultraro leading the charge. Baker De Saularie came in second with jockey Carlos Henrique, while Sun Amer finished third under jockey Al Moatasem Al Balushi. The feature event was crowned by HE Mr Mohammed Ali Al Athba, Chairman of the Central Municipal Council.
The opener saw Zero Mostel secure a comfortable two-length victory in the 1200m Thoroughbred Handicap (45-65) for 3YOs and older. The 3YO gelding, owned and trained by Khalid Abdulaziz A A Al-Kuwari, secured his first win on his third start this month and seventh career outing. Barig Al Thumama and Villain's Voice battled it out for the runner-up place, with the former eventually finishing second under jockey Abdulla Rashid Al-Hajri.
In the second race, the Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate for 3-to-6YOs, Jazi Umm Al Amad finally got off the mark on her 16th career start. The 4YO filly, owned by Al Anood Stud and trained by Alanoud Khalifa Al-Malki, was ridden to a half-length win by jockey Mohammed Moussa. Kyleiba At finished second, six and a half lengths ahead of her nearest rival.
The Rashid Mohammed R A Alathba-owned Makarim secured her first win on her seventh career start in the 1200m Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate for 3-to-6YOs. The 4YO filly, trained by Bader Al Balushi and partnered by jockey Al Moatasem Al Balushi, won by a quarter of a length. Ghazwah finished second, five lengths ahead of the nearest rival.
Jazz De Nacre secured his second win in a row, taking the 1700m Purebred Arabian Novice Plate for 3YOs and older by two and a quarter lengths. The Eng. Osama Omer E Al-Dafea-owned and Owaida Salem Al Hajri-trained horse was ridden by Abdulla Rashid Al-Hajri. Sakher finished second, four lengths ahead of the nearest rival.
Bahi secured his second victory this season in the 1700m Purebred Arabian Handicap (50-70) for 3YOs and older. The 3YO colt, owned by Hamad Ahmed Hassan Al Malki Al Jehani and trained by Hamad Al-Jehani, won by three-quarters of a length under the guidance of jockey Alberto Sanna.
Majd Al Arab, owned by Al Sawabeeh Stud and Khalifa Hamed Nasser Al Sawai-trained, won the 1200m Thoroughbred Handicap (65-85) for 3YOs and older by three-quarters of a length under jockey Giuseppe Cultraro. Sherood finished second by only a short head in front of him under jockey Szczepan Mazur, while Tilaawah came in third, ridden by Hamed Al Busaidi.
The penultimate race, the 1200m Local Purebred Arabian Conditions for horses aged 3YOs and older, saw Saoud Al Sulaimi win by a neck under jockey Alberto Sanna. The Gassim Ghazali-trained horse, owned by Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalid Bin Nasser Al Thani, was followed closely by Ietibar, trained by Ahmed Kobeissi and ridden by Faleh Bughanaim.
