Great Truth will have another opportunity to showcase its sprinting skills in the Dubai Trophy, which is the main event of this week's Dubai Racing Carnival fixture at Meydan, UAE. The race is scheduled to take place on 9th February.
In January, the Dubawi colt showed promise in the Al Wasl Stakes over the same six furlongs. Despite starting from the rear, he demonstrated a strong finish and managed to secure fourth place behind the impressive winner, Star Of Mystery.
During the previous season in the UK, Great Truth had two races over seven furlongs as a juvenile. He made his debut at Leicester and achieved an easy victory. However, in his second race, the Gr.2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket, he finished in fourth place.
His trainer Charlie Appleby said, “Great Truth has definitely come forward since he ran in the Al Wasl Stakes and we are applying a tongue-tie this time. His work has been good and, if he translates his improvement at home to the track, he should be very competitive.”
In the Vazirabad Handicap, Godolphin has four strong contenders, including Global Heat, a Meydan veteran who won the Listed Al Khail Trophy last season, and Military March, who aims to regain the form he showed when finishing fourth in the 2020 Gr.1 2,000 Guineas.
The Saeed bin Suroor-trained duo will be up against Al Nafir and Ruling Dynasty, who finished in mid-division over the course and distance in December under Charlie Appleby.
Wild Tiger, a half-brother of Algiers, the Dubai World Cup runner-up of 2023, will compete in the evening's mile turf handicap after winning his only previous start at Wolverhampton in October 2022. Saeed bin Suroor will also be represented in the same race by Beautiful Secret, who finished fourth on her first outing in 447 days in a Meydan handicap last month.
