Trainer Bob Baffert's horses, Newgate and Hopkins, along with Two Rivers Over, trained by Doug O'Neill, will be leaving Santa Anita Park on March 17 for a trip to Dubai. They will be transported to a boarding facility near Los Angeles International Airport where they will spend the night before departing to Dubai on March 18. The Dubai World Cup program, which has a total purse of US$30.5 million, is scheduled for 30th March at Meydan Racecourse.
Newgate, who won the Gr.1 Santa Anita Handicap on 3rd March, is all set to participate in the Gr.1 Dubai World Cup at 1 1/4 miles on dirt, which has a purse of US$12 million.
Hopkins, who finished second in the Gr.3 Palos Verdes at six furlongs on February 10, will make another attempt at the US$2 million Gr.1 Dubai Golden Shaheen at six furlongs on dirt. In the previous year's Golden Shaheen, the 6YO Quality Road horse finished fourth.
Two Rivers Over will run in the US$1 million Gr.2 Godolphin Mile on dirt, and Santa Anita-based jockey Edwin Maldonado will ride him.
Two Rivers Over, a 4YO Tamarkuz gelding, finished fourth in the Gr.2 San Pasqual at 1 1/8 miles on 27th January. The Zia Park Derby was his only stakes win last year.
