Doug Watson-trained Isolate delivered a remarkable performance in last year's Godolphin Mile when he stepped up to a longer distance for the first time.
He took an early lead and won by five and a half lengths. Although he struggled in the nine-furlong Saudi Cup last month, he is expected to perform better over a more familiar shorter distance. However, he faces a tough challenge from the Brad Cox-trained Saudi Crown, who finished third in the Saudi Cup. The 4YO son of Always Dreaming has the potential to win, especially as he is dropping down in class.
Jose D'Angelo trained two horses for the big night, including Caramel Chip, who finished fourth to Sibelius in the Pelican Stakes at Tampa. Caramel Chip was the fastest among 92 horses at Palm Meadows, completing a half-mile in 47.45 seconds. The 6YO son of Midshipman will be competing in the Godolphin Mile, but it remains to be seen how he will perform over the longer distance.
Swing Vote, a horse trained by Ed and Simon Crisford, has won three out of four starts on dirt, all at Jebel Ali, but finished fifth in his last race to Laurel River. Despite his previous successes on the turf, his vulnerability in this field is evident.
