It has been announced that Hawaii Five Oh, a stallion with a royal lineage and an impressive resemblance to his sire, I Am Invincible, will be joining the stallion roster at Vinery Stud for the upcoming 2024 breeding season.
Peter Orton, the General Manager at Vinery Stud, is thrilled with the new addition, stating that Hawaii Five Oh is a stunning horse with a balanced size and perfect confirmation.
With over US$2.1 million in prize money earned and dual Group Three wins, Hawaii Five Oh also earned a Group One placement and boasts a superior racing profile compared to his sire when he retired to stud back in 2010.
“There is no doubt, Hawaii Five Oh was one of I Am Invincible’s most naturally talented sons,” said Adrian Bott, co-trainer at Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing.
“I truly believe we did not see the best from him, however in his short career, he was able to showcase some exceptional talent; he was explosive when breaking through at stakes level with a brilliant Group Three victory.
“In an Everest Campaign, he ran the eventual winner to a nose at Group Two level prior, before performing creditably in the big event itself, starting well in market. He is an exciting prospect that I’m sure will be well received.”
During his 3YO season, Hawaii Five Oh had an impressive debut victory in August, followed by rapid progression into Group company. He culminated his success with two consecutive Group Th wins, all under the guidance of his trainers, Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

"The guineas is over, just like that!"
In the US$3 million Gr.1 BRC Stradbroke Handicap, Hawaii Five Oh finished third in his last run as a 3YO, coming within 1.8 lengths of the top sprinters Think About It and Rothfire. His racetrack career demonstrated a natural progression, with him showing bravery and coming second to Think About It in the US$1 million Gr.2 ATC Premiere Stakes. On Epsom Day, he delivered a Chautauqua-like performance by coming from last on the turn to post the fastest final 200m sectional.
After finishing as a close second in the Premiere Stakes, Aquis secured Hawaii Five Oh for the US$20 million Everest event. Despite being posted four wide the journey from barrier 10 in a 12-horse field, Hawaii Five Oh ran a very creditable 6th, only 2.3 lengths from the first three finishers: Think About It, I Wish I Win, and Private Eye.
Hawaii Five Oh's pedigree distinguishes him from his own sire, as he comes from a royal female family with a long history of producing topflight Stakes winners, including Group One winners Malaquerra, Cool Aza Beel, and Seabrook. Impressively, his first five dams are all Stakes winners, making Hawaii Five Oh the only stallion at stud in Australia with this trait. His mother Aloha was a Group One winner of the ATC Coolmore Classic and has quickly established herself as a brilliant producing mare.
“Pedigree depth is so important to us and is what constantly strive for in our standing stallions. Hawaii Five Oh has the looks, the pedigree and showed he was a superior athlete,” said Orton.
Hawaii Five Oh is not the only successful horse bred on this cross, as his full sister Libertini is also a triple Group Two winner and has been placed in Group One on three occasions. Hawaii Five Oh and Libertini have both participated in The Everest during their careers. Other notable Stakes winners bred on this cross include Lombardo, King’s Gambit, Madam Legend, Salateen, Sangria, Vinco, and Divine Centuri.
Baramul Stud Racing Manager Luke McDonald has said that Hawaii Five Oh's physical attributes matched his elite pedigree from birth. Gerry Harvey, Hawaii Five Oh's breeder, has committed a lineup of his Baramul Stud mares to support this young stallion.
These mares include Royal Descent, the Group One Australian Oaks winner, She’s Ideel, a Group winner and Group One placed horse, as well as stakes-winners No Evidence Needed and Me Me Legarde. The proven producing mares that will visit Hawaii Five Oh this season include the dam of Te Akau's 2024 Group One winning juvenile Move To Strike, the dam of Group One J.J. Atkins Stakes winner Prince Fawaz, and the dams of stakes-winners Best Of Bordeaux, The Elanora, and Vienna Princess.
Hawaii Five Oh will be standing his initial season at a service fee of US$16,500 including GST. The full roster of Vinery service fees will be announced in the coming weeks.
