The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale at the Maryland State Fair Grounds in Timonium, Md. saw significant speed improvements during the second under tack show.
Only one horse, Hip 12, a Volatile filly consigned by Hartley/DeRenzo, managed to reach the 00:10 mark at the first under tack show on May 14, a testament to its exceptional speed. The second under tack show, which was postponed due to rain and saw a two-hour delay for track maintenance, provided a challenging yet rewarding environment for the colts to showcase their abilities.
Hip 285, a Florida-bred colt by Vekoma, out of Scion Power, a half-sister to Grade Three winner Derwin's Star, impressed with a one-furlong work in 00:09 4/5. The chestnut colt, consigned by Wavertree Stables agent, was a US$175,000 pinhook out of the 2023 Fasig-Tipton July Sale.
Another notable performer was Hip 314, a grey/roan Kentucky-bred Street Boss colt out of the winning Sky Mesa mare Snow Mesa. Consigned by Longoria Training and Sales, Hip 314 was a US$35,000 purchase at last year's Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
In addition to these impressive performances, four horses recorded a time of 00:21 1/5 for two furlongs. These included Hip 203, an Instilled Regard filly out of the placed Big Brown mare One Foxy Grey; Hip 225, a Maclean's Music colt out of the winning Congrats mare Port of Indy; Hip 258, a Bolt d'Oro colt out of Reinita, a sister to grade 2-placed stakes winner All Right; and Hip 374, an Authentic filly out of the placed Afleet Alex mare Truly Gifted.
