Windsor Castle runner-up Gabaldon is now set to target the Breeders’ Cup following Qatar Racing’s acquisition of a half-share in the American speedster.
Trained by Venezuelan Jose Francisco D’Angelo in Florida, Gabaldon impressed on debut by winning the Royal Palm Juvenile Stakes at Gulfstream Park. This victory earned him a spot in one of Royal Ascot’s 2YO races, where he acclimatised to the UK at the National Stud in Newmarket before competing in the Windsor Castle.
In the five-furlong race, Gabaldon, under Emisael Jaramillo, led for much of the event but ultimately finished second as Kevin Ryan’s Ain’t Nobody made a late surge.
The son of Gone Astray, bought for just US$9,000 as a yearling, is now back in the U.S., with plans focused on a bid for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Del Mar at the end of the season.
“This happened in America via the new Inglis online sale and Sheikh Fahad managed to do a deal that he thought was good value for a half-share in the horse and it’s exciting,” said David Redvers, racing manager for Qatar Racing.
“He tried to make all at Ascot and I would say the Breeders’ Cup would be the plan.”
