Despite looming Hurricane Milton forcing a schedule change, the Ocala Breeders' Sales October Yearling Sale pressed ahead with its opening session, seeing Pick View securing a colt by first-season sire Yaupon for US$75,000.
Traditionally run on Tuesday and Wednesday, the two-day sale was moved forward, a decision earning praise from consignors. Colin Brennan remarking: "I think it was the best move to move it forward. Everyone I talked to agreed that with these storms, you never know what's going to happen. So, that was the best move. I commend OBS for that."
The session-topping Florida-bred yearling, consigned by Brennan Bloodstock, hails from the family of multiple graded stakes winner Conveyance. The colt's dam, Bride Street, is by Street Cry.
"The sire has been selling so well, they're so hot," Brennan added. "We thought this would be a good place for him. He's a good-looking, early type 2-year-old."
MARKET OVERVIEW Last year's opening session saw Reputation, a filly by Bolt d'Oro, commanding US$135,000 when secured by de Meric Sales from Kaizen Sales. Notable past graduates include Gr.1 winners Practical Joke and Got Stormy.
Monday's trade saw:
• 97 lots sold for US$1,659,000
• Average price of US$17,112
• Median of US$10,000
• 39.8% RNA rate
K.O.I.D. emerged as leading buyer, securing six yearlings for US$124,000, while Kaizen Sales topped consignors with 14 sold for US$274,200.
The session's top filly, by first-crop sire Vekoma, realised US$72,000 to Tom McCrocklin. The Abbie Road-consigned yearling is out of Grin, by Flatter.
Yaupon, standing at Spendthrift Farm for US$25,000, has seen his first crop well-received, with a colt achieving US$900,000 at Keeneland September.
