Bahrain's horseracing prestige has taken a significant leap forward with the King's Cup receiving Group Three status, while two other prestigious races have achieved Listed recognition, marking a watershed moment for racing in the Gulf state.
In a groundbreaking development for Bahrain racing, the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) is set to introduce night racing following the completion of their floodlighting project, joining the ranks of prestigious venues like Meydan and Sha Tin in hosting evening fixtures.
Meeting at Riffa Palace, Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, chairman of the REHC High Committee, outlined plans for an enhanced 30-race calendar, demonstrating the kingdom's commitment to expanding its racing footprint.
The Shaikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup and Shaikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup have both achieved Listed status, further cementing Bahrain's position on the international racing map.
The ambitious plans align with His Majesty King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa's vision for establishing Bahrain as a global racing powerhouse.
An expanded Bahrain Turf Series, now featuring 12 rounds, is poised to attract increased international participation, while the innovative Future Stars Championship introduces six races across three rounds exclusively for locally-bred horses.
"These developments are integral to the club's plans to elevate the experience for participants and attendees while strengthening the kingdom's equestrian sector regionally and internationally," said Shaikh Isa, who also chairs the Isa Bin Salman Education Charitable Trust and Labour Fund (Tamkeen).
Infrastructure improvements include significant upgrades to the main platform of the racetrack, ensuring world-class facilities for both domestic and international competitors.
The 2024-25 season will commence with The Late His Highness Shaikh Rashid Bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup, honouring his considerable contributions to Bahrain racing, before weekly fixtures continue throughout the campaign.
The High Committee expressed gratitude to partners and sponsors, whose support has been instrumental in establishing Bahrain as an emerging force in global horseracing, with the kingdom now positioned to attract an even broader international presence in the seasons ahead.
