Blake Shinn is rekindling his successful partnership with Antino as the Australian star heads to Sha Tin for the Gr.1 Hong Kong Mile on December 8, with trainer Tony Gollan confirming the booking.
The talented miler, who has been making waves in Australian racing, is preparing for his most significant international test. Shinn, who masterfully steered Antino to a commanding victory in the Gr.1 Toorak Handicap, is eager to make amends after missing the Champions Mile through suspension, where Mark Zahra deputised as the gelding finished second to Mr Brightside.
Previous winners of the Hong Kong Mile include the legendary Beauty Generation, who claimed back-to-back victories in 2017 and 2018 before going on to amass over US$12.5 million in prize money.
Golden Sixty's memorable triumph in 2020 preceded his remarkable streak of Group One successes.
Antino's connections are finalising travel arrangements for a late November departure to Hong Kong, allowing ample time for acclimatisation before the prestigious international fixture.
The international challenge is further strengthened by Without A Fight, representing the powerful Anthony and Sam Freedman stable. The Melbourne Cup hero is adding considerable depth to an already star-studded international contingent descending on Sha Tin.
"The timing is perfect for Antino," Gollan said. "He's come through his last run in great order and the Hong Kong Mile has always been our target. Having Blake back aboard is a massive plus - they've got a great understanding."
