Rising star Simon Kok is embarking on a new journey in UAE racing, joining forces with established trainer Rashed Bouresly at his Ras Al-Khaimah base following Singapore Turf Club's closure.
The accomplished rider wasted no time getting acquainted with his new surroundings, sporting Bouresly's distinctive orange colours aboard Arz Lebnan and Ajjial during recent Meydan trials.
The Ipoh native's meteoric rise since turning professional in 2018 has seen him clinch nearly 200 victories across Singapore and Australia. His crowning achievement came in Singapore's premier contest, the Gr.1 Singapore Gold Cup, complementing his dual champion apprentice titles and champion local jockey honours over seven productive seasons.
Previous Singapore Gold Cup winners include War Affair (2014), who went on to claim multiple Group One victories, and Debt Collector (2016), who dominated Singapore's racing scene with numerous prestigious wins.
"I am honoured to be here in the UAE riding for Mr. Bouresly and hopefully this season I will be able to establish myself in this region," said Kok. "The team have been so accommodating so far and I'm looking forward so returning the favor with some winners early in the season."
While awaiting his first thoroughbred mount for the Bouresly yard, Kok has already displayed his skills for trainer Qaiss Aboud. His transition from Singapore's Kranji circuit to the competitive UAE racing scene demonstrates both his versatility and determination to succeed at the highest level.
The acquisition of Kok by Bouresly's operation highlights the Emirates' growing status as a premier racing destination, capable of attracting international talent of the highest calibre. His arrival marks a significant coup for UAE racing, bringing proven Group One-winning expertise to the desert racing stronghold.
