Following in the hoofprints of the mighty Frankel, City Of Troy has claimed both the Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt and Horse of the Year titles at the 34th Cartier Racing Awards ceremony, held at London's Dorchester Hotel on Wednesday evening.
The Aidan O'Brien-trained colt, owned by the Coolmore partnership including Sue Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, has matched an achievement previously accomplished only by Sea The Stars, winning the Derby, Coral-Eclipse, and Juddmonte International in the same season. His York victory was particularly memorable, setting a new course record with an impressive front-running performance.
The 3YO emerged victorious in a stellar field that included his stablemate Kyprios, who dominated the staying division, multiple Group One-winning miler Charyn, and Arc heroine Bluestocking.
In the sprinting division, Bradsell, trained by Archie Watson for Victorious Racing, secured the Cartier Sprinter award following commanding victories in the Gr.1 Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes and Gr.1 Flying Five Stakes.
Porta Fortuna, trained by Donnacha O'Brien, claimed the Three-Year-Old Filly Award after an impressive campaign including wins in the Coronation Stakes, Falmouth Stakes, and Matron Stakes. The daughter of Caravaggio races for a partnership including Barry Fowler, Medallion Racing, Steve Weston and Reeves Thoroughbred Racing.
Godolphin's Shadow Of Light, trained by Charlie Appleby, became only the second juvenile in over four decades to complete the Middle Park-Dewhurst double, securing the Two-Year-Old Colt award.
The unbeaten Lake Victoria claimed the Two-Year-Old Filly award following spectacular performances in the Cheveley Park Stakes and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf for the Coolmore operation.
Jessica Harrington received the Cartier/The Daily Telegraph Award of Merit, recognising her outstanding contribution to both Flat and National Hunt racing, following a distinguished career that began in three-day eventing.
Laurent Feniou, Managing Director of Cartier UK, said: "We are thrilled to celebrate another tremendous year of European racing and our congratulations go to all of this year's winners at the Cartier Racing Awards. City Of Troy looked an exceptional colt throughout the season and he is a worthy recipient of the Cartier Horse of the Year award. We are honoured to be able to present the Cartier/The Daily Telegraph Award of Merit to Jessica Harrington, who has proved such an inspirational figure across the equestrian world. I would like to extend a special thanks to our media partners Racing Post, The Daily Telegraph and Sky Sports Racing for their ongoing support of the Cartier Racing Awards."
Previous Cartier Horse of the Year winners include the legendary Frankel (2011, 2012), Enable (2017, 2018), and Treve (2013, 2014), all of whom achieved multiple Group One successes throughout their careers.
