Strong tradition: Previous winners Auguste Rodin (2022) and Hurricane Lane (2021) both went on to capture multiple Group One races including the Irish Derby
Jan Brueghel could be set for a tilt at Saudi riches following his withdrawal from international targets, with master trainer Aidan O'Brien plotting a fresh campaign for his Classic winner.
The unbeaten son of Dubawi had been earmarked for the Melbourne Cup but failed to satisfy Racing Victoria veterinarians in pre-race examinations at Flemington. A potential run in the Gr.1 Hong Kong Vase was subsequently scratched after the colt's restricted training regime in Australia.
Speaking via Coolmore's social media platform, O'Brien revealed: "He had a long journey back from Australia and was restricted to only trotting while over there. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to prepare him properly for Hong Kong so we will revisit his plans. We may aim for a race in Saudi early next year."
The Ballydoyle handler is now eyeing the lucrative Saudi Cup meeting at King Abdulaziz Racetrack in Riyadh, where the feature programme carries combined purses worth over US$35 million.
