The 27th renewal of Qatar's flagship Arabian showcase begins today at Qatar Equestrian Federation's outdoor arena, marking another milestone in the nation's illustrious equestrian calendar.
A star-studded field of 300 horses, representing Qatar's premier breeding operations, is set to grace the four-day extravaganza. Al Shaqab, member of Qatar Foundation, leads the prestigious contingent alongside fellow powerhouses Al Nasser, Umm Al Udham, Al Sraiya, Al Jood, Al Thamer and Al Jumail studs.
Nine certified European Conference of Arab Horse Organizations (ECAHO) judges will preside over the competitions, maintaining the highest standards of evaluation for champions across various categories.
Last year's renewal showcased the depth of Qatar's breeding programme, with Khood Al Shaqab claiming yearling fillies' honours for Al Shaqab. Jaleel Al Khor, representing Ebrahim Yusuf Al Romaihi, dominated the yearling colts' division, while Al Nasser Stud celebrated a notable double through Rayyanah Al Nasser and Areeb Al Nasser in junior categories. D Fala from Al Salem Stud secured senior mare laurels, with Al Romaihi's Hader Al Shaqab proving supreme among senior stallions.
The inaugural Al Rayyan National Peninsula Arabian Horse Show follows hot on the heels of this week's national showcase, running from December 2-4. This fresh addition to Qatar's growing portfolio of Arabian horse events will feature 200 Straight Egyptian horses, all registered in Qatar's recognised Studbook.
"This season encompasses 12 national and international shows," said a QREC spokesperson. "We aim to maximise opportunities for Qatari horse owners, whether individuals or studs and farms, deliver diversified shows and ensure participation across various categories."
The introduction of the Al Rayyan shows further cements Qatar's position as a global hub for Arabian horse excellence, with qualifying classes determining champions across all age groups and gender categories under the watchful eyes of eight certified judges.
