A faulty set of starting stalls has forced the postponement of two major races in the Bahrain Turf Series, with both contests now rescheduled for Friday, January 10.
The affected races - the US$80,000 Al Riffa Cup and US$80,000 Al Dana Cup - represent the second rounds of the sprint and middle-distance divisions respectively at the Rashid Equestrian & Horseracing Club.
Officials were left with no alternative but to reschedule after discovering one bank of stalls could not be repaired in time. The stewards explained: "The damaged bank of stalls was unable to be repaired in time to be used for the remainder of the meeting and as a consequence, the Stewards abandoned Race 7 (Al Dana Cup) and Race 8 (Al Riffa Cup) and these will be rescheduled for the meeting on Friday 10th January."
Both prestigious contests required dual sets of starting gates due to field sizes, leading to the unavoidable delay of the BBK-sponsored fixtures until next week's meeting.
