Thorpedo Anna, last season's superb Breeders' Cup heroine, has made her eagerly anticipated return to training at Gulfstream Park, marking her first appearance since a minor surgical procedure.
Trainer Kenneth McPeek is weighing up an ambitious tilt at the US$12 million Dubai World Cup, whilst keeping the Apple Blossom as a viable alternative for the outstanding four-year-old's seasonal bow.
Fresh from having a small bone splinter removed from her jaw, the daughter of Torpedo Max is steadily building towards peak fitness. "If she's training that forwardly, we might consider the Dubai World Cup for her first start back," McPeek told DRF. "If not, it will likely be the Apple Blossom."
The brilliant filly, campaigning for Magdalena Racing, Judy Hicks, Brookdale Racing Inc., and Mark Edwards, dominated her division last term with six victories from seven outings. Her remarkable campaign included triumphs in the Kentucky Oaks amongst five top-level successes, with her sole reversal coming when finishing a head behind Fierceness in the Gr.1 Travers.
McPeek's charge, currently in the frame for an Eclipse Award, will continue jogging for three to four weeks before advancing to more serious preparations, as connections plot her path towards another potentially glittering campaign.
