White Abarrio completed his final serious work out ahead of the US$3 million Gr.1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational, breezing four furlongs at Gulfstream Park on Tuesday morning.
The accomplished colt, trained by Saffie Joseph Jr, partnered with stablemate Silver Moonlight to clock :48.34 over the main track, finishing eighth among 27 workers. This followed his sharp half-mile move on January 9, when he posted :47.81.
"He worked well," Joseph said. "I thought it was a very good work. He did a lot of last week so we kept him in hand this time, just a little off the horse inside and he finished up well. We never really let him out today. We were very happy with it."
The partnership with Silver Moonlight, a 4YO daughter of Liam's Map owned by C2 Racing's Mark and Clint Cornett, has proved beneficial for both horses. The filly has secured three consecutive victories, whilst White Abarrio boasts an impressive record of six wins from eight starts at Gulfstream, including triumphs in the Gr.3 Holy Bull Stakes and Gr.1 Florida Derby in 2022.
Joseph's other Pegasus contender, the battle-hardened Skippylongstocking, owned by Daniel Alonso, is set to complete his final preparation on Wednesday at Palm Meadows Training Center.
Racing in the colours of C2 Racing Stable, Prince Faisal bin Khaled bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and Antonio Pagnano, White Abarrio appears primed for another bold showing at his favoured venue.
