Elwateen, the impeccably bred daughter of Dubawi, is being prepared for a potential 1000 Guineas trial as she returns from a winter interruption that derailed her juvenile campaign.
The Saeed bin Suroor-trained filly, carrying the famous blue and white silks of the Shadwell operation, created quite a stir when delivering an eye-catching performance to win on debut at Kempton Park. Her dam Tawkeel, a Group One winner herself, suggests there could be significant improvement to come from this promising youngster.
Plans for a tilt at the Gr.1 Fillies' Mile had to be shelved when the filly developed a persistent cough last autumn. However, her decorated trainer, who secured his 13th British Classic when Mawj stormed to victory in the 1000 Guineas in 2023, is now looking forward with renewed optimism.
"She's doing well again now, she's started to do half-speeds," revealed Bin Suroor, outlining the road ahead. "The plan will be to run her at the Craven meeting (Nell Gwyn) or one of the other trials. She's doing all right."
The Godolphin handler continued: "She stayed in Newmarket as she had a break, she was coughing for a long time otherwise we would have run her again, so we gave her a break.
"I saw her in Newmarket, and she did a nice canter so we'll build her up towards the spring and look for a race for her. She's a nice filly."
The progressive filly remains in the frame for the major spring prizes, with her connections hoping she can build on the promise shown in her sole racecourse appearance to date.
