Soul of an Angel demonstrated her wellbeing with a swift workout at Gulfstream Park, covering four furlongs in :47 4/5 as connections await confirmation of her place in the US$20 million Saudi Cup.
The Grade One-winning mare, partnered in ownership by C2 Racing Stable, Agave Racing Stable, and Ken Reimer, delivered her third piece of work since finishing third in the Rampart Stakes, ranking 13th amongst 70 horses on the morning's workout list.
Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr, currently leading the Championship Meet standings, expressed satisfaction with the exercise, noting: "She had a good half-mile work. We put her in company to pick it up a bit. She came out of the last race well. The last one was a prep for this one. She's in good order. We'll find out in a day or two if she's going to get in or not."
The 6YO mare's outstanding 2024 campaign, which earned her the Eclipse Award as North America's champion female sprinter, featured eight top-three finishes from 11 starts. Her victories included the Gr.1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint at Del Mar, having secured her spot through triumph in the Gr.3 Princess Rooney Invitational at Gulfstream.
The Saudi Cup, contested over 1,800 metres at King Abdulaziz Racecourse, represents a significant step up in trip, with Joseph remarking: "We're still kind of waiting a bit to see if we get in to Saudi. They told us we were likely invited, and then said we were on the reserve list. She's the third reserve right now, so we're waiting to see what happens."
Reflecting on her championship honours, Joseph added: "That's a great achievement for her. We're very thankful to have our first champion."
