Evergreen and Cosmic Power stormed to an impressive double for owners Al Adiyat Racing and trainer AM Smith in their respective Future Stars contests last night under the floodlights at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club in Sakhir.
Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, chairman of the Isa Bin Salman Education Charitable Trust, Labour Fund (Tamkeen) chairman, and REHC chairman, was in attendance at yesterday's fixture, which formed part of the club's Ramadan Nights programme during the 23rd meeting of the kingdom's national horseracing season.
In the Future Stars Champions Leg One, contested over 1,400 metres with US$10,600 in prize money, 3YO filly Evergreen claimed victory with Lee Newman aboard, crossing the line three-quarters of a length ahead of runner-up Dick Dastardly, representing M and E Racing, Smith and Marcialis Jaures. Istanbul secured third place for Adiyat, Smith and Ebrahim Nader, while Intelligence completed the top four for the same owner-trainer combination with Alejandro Brun in the saddle.
The Future Stars Sprint Leg One saw Al Adiyat and Smith striking again, this time with Nader piloting 3YO colt Cosmic Power to success in the 1,000m contest worth US$10,600. The winner finished two-and-a-half lengths clear of Deham, carrying the silks of Victorious for trainer Yousif Taher with Hussain Asghar aboard. Princess of Monaco claimed third for L&L Racing, Smith and Newman, with Illuminate finishing fourth for Victorious, Smith and Brun.
The evening's curtain-raiser, the Al Wasmiya Cup, went to Al Saqlawy 1874 representing Victorious, Taher and Hasan Ali, with Al Suwaity M1063 taking second for Al Mohamediya Racing, Ali Abdulmajeed and Mohammed Jamil. Tuwaisan 1936 finished third for Al Khaldiya, Yousif Alboainain and Ali Isa, while Obeyan 1893 claimed fourth for Al Wasmiya, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Ahmed Mohamed.
Hawaiian landed race two for Al Afoo Racing, Jaber Ramadhan and Connor Beasley, with Magic Memories triumphing in race four for Rashed Racing, Alboainain and Nader. Masarah proved successful in race six for AMS Racing, Ali Jan and Abdulrahim Jasim, before Al Mohamediya, Osama Hashim and Asghar completed a late double through Gumais in race seven and Double Jump in the finale.
