The annual public horse auction at the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir concluded with impressive results, seeing 49 horses changing hands for a total of US$215,499 (BD81,320).
Attending the event was Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, chairman of the REHC High Committee, who has supported the auction for its third consecutive running. The sale was jointly organised by REHC in collaboration with Mazad and renowned bloodstock auctioneers Tattersalls Ltd.
From the 66 horses catalogued, the clearance rate reached 74 percent, with the top lot commanding US$21,731 (BD8,200). The auction utilised cutting-edge technology to streamline the sales process while maintaining transparency throughout.
The auction has become an important fixture in Bahrain's racing calendar, providing vital support to stables and creating opportunities for owners to refresh their strings, thereby enhancing the diversity of the racing population and encouraging new participants to enter the sport.
REHC CEO Yusuf Buheji praised Shaikh Isa's ongoing support: "The continuous attendance and support of His Highness contributed significantly to the success of the event. The auction represents a key initiative of the REHC High Committee to advance the sport."
Talal Al Araifi, CEO of Mazad, expressed satisfaction with the strong buyer engagement, saying: "We are proud of what the auction has achieved. His Highness's efforts in advancing Bahrain's status in international horseracing are commendable, and we reaffirm Mazad's commitment to supporting the sector's development."
