Siegen stole the show with a pulsating half-length victory in the Thoroughbred Handicap 0-90 at the opening day of the End Of Season Cup meeting at Al Uqda Racecourse on Wednesday.
The 3YO gelding, owned by Khalid Hamad M A Al Hajri and trained by Ahmed Al Jehani, produced a brilliant performance under Saleh Faraj Al Otaibi to hold off the persistent challenge from Make Love, partnered by Soufiane Saadi.
Earlier on the card, Messaouda claimed the Local Thoroughbred Handicap 45-70 (Class 3) by the same half-length margin, giving jockey Alberto Sanna a well-deserved success for trainer Ibrahim Khaled Elahmed.
The afternoon belonged to trainer Hamad Al Jehani, who celebrated a quick-fire double as Ajlaan captured the Purebred Arabian Graduation Plate under Lukas Delozier, before Washeek powered home in the Thoroughbred Handicap 60-80 with Szczepan Mazur delivering a perfectly-timed ride.
The meeting began with a confident display from Husam Al Shahania, who took the honours in the Local Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate (Class 6) for trainer Mohammed Hassan Al Matwi with Salman Fahad Al-Hajri in the saddle.
The second and final day of the 43rd Al Rayyan Race Meeting continues tomorrow with five races, featuring the prestigious Season Finale Trophy, Al Utouriya Cup and the Al Karana Cup taking centre stage.
