Previously trained by Joseph O'Brien, the son of Starspangledbanner took his debut run on a new surface with aplomb, making his conditioner proud.
Appleby speaks to Ten Furlongs ahead of the gelding’s next trip down the Meydan straight about his plans for the 5YO’s next race.
Q: Please tell us about your plans for King Of Stars? What races is he being aimed at?
A: He is mainly a 5 Furlong (1000m: sprinter. He ran well in the Dubai Dash (L: for his debut. He is expected to race in the 6 furlongs’ Gr.3 Dubawi Stakes. After these initial races we will then decide whether to run him in Dubai or Saudi.
I think we need a very quick surface. He has been fine on the turf and on fine sand, so he should be fine on the dirt. We might look at going to Saudi for the 6-furlongs race.
Q: And what are your plans to join King Of Stars in Dubai?
A: I got my groom to come over and look after him. I will travel in as needed and based on any travel restrictions.
Q: Please tell us about his owner.
A: Mr. William Esdaile is a very nice man. We bought King Of Stars at the Newmarket Sale and we purchased him from Jude Brian. He is likely to come to watch his horse race, if we are able to travel.
Q: And what was your favorite Dubai World Cup night?
A: Well, it’s funny to say that I've been to 10 Dubai World Cup Carnival meetings but I've never actually been on World Cup Night. We have never had an offer that qualifies for it. We've always gone on before it. Hopefully this time it will be different.
