Roger Varian-trained Eldar Eldarov is hoping to remain unbeaten after the Gr.2 Queens Vase. The handler had considered the King Edward VII Stakes for this potentially high-class 3YO, however, with ground conditions on the fast side, this more demanding test of stamina may suit better.
Nahannididn't quite get the rub of the green in the Derby and still has better days ahead of him on that evidence, while Baltic Bird and Anchorage are also worth a mention.
The most significant horses to be looked at for this race are:
Al Qareem: Recently won at York in an 8-runner handicap at York and is open to further improvement and shouldn't be overlooked.
Anchorage: From the yard of Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien, the 3YO Galileo should do well over this much longer trip.
Baltic Bird: John & Thady Gosden’s charge, seems to be the type to go on improving up in trip/grade. He should not be taken lightly. Has a winning chance
Eldar Eldarov: The £480,000 Breeze-Up buy by Dubawi remains open to significant improvement. He will go up in trip for this race.
Green Team: The French-bred son of Wootton Bassett is unlikely to be able to do well in this august company.
Hafit: This superbly bred £2.1m Godolphin colt made a winning start on Newmarket's July course but has not been able to land another win since then. He didn't show the anticipated improvement upped in trip at Longchamp, however he still ought to be a factor fitted with first-time cheekpieces.
Nahanni: The highly progressive Frankel colt completed a hat-trick in the Blue Riband Trial and remains open to improvement, especially now upped further in trip.
Typewriter: David Probert described securing his fastest century of winners in a year as a “feather in his cap” after reaching the milestone with victory aboard Typewriter in the IRE Incentive Scheme EBF Restricted Novice Stakes, taking her form up a level when making a winning handicap debut back there a couple of months later. Came on plenty for reappearance when third in Cheshire Oaks but more needed upped further in trip.
