Group 1 Golden Stakes winner Jacquinot (Rubick) is set to remain in Sydney for a tilt at next month’s valuable Everest (1200m) following his weekend success.
There had been some uncertainty over where the three year-old would head next, but co-trainer Mick Price has revealed the Everest at Randwick on October 15 is the colt’s agenda.
And should he take his chance in the $15 million sprint, it is believed that Jacquinot will fill the Coolmore slot. The three-time winner was bred and is owned by Lindsay Maxsted, chairman of Coolmore Australia.
“I’ve had a chat with some of the owners and we’re definitely going for the Everest,” Price, who trains in partnership with Michael Kent Jnr, told Racing.com.
“That horse enjoys a bit of space between runs, so we wanted to go to the Golden Rose to get a Group 1 win for him, build a home at stud for him, and then we make a choice whether it’s two weeks [between runs] and back home into the Caulfield Guineas or three weeks [between runs], leave him be, freshen him, and have a good crack at a 1200-metres Everest.
“It’s an exciting race, The Everest, he’s won his Group 1, so we have a bit of credit in the bank, and I think it would be sensational to win an Everest.” Price added that Damian Lane would ride Jacquinot in The Everest at 53.5 kilograms.
